This is bag manufacturing companyS 4.181 Running IIS in a separate process
Initiation responsibility: Head of IT Section, IT Security Management Implementation responsibility: Administrator IIS 4.0 offers facilities for executing server-side applications, e. G. ASP, CGI, ISAPI, IDC, SSI, in the same process (Inetinfo. Exe) as IIS. Alternatively, the applications can be executed in a separate process (DLLhost. Exe). IIS 5.0 extends both the above methods by adding an additional possibility, the pooled method. Under this method, two or more applications can be combined in a single process (DLLhost. Exe) and executed independently of the main process (Inetinfo. Exe). By separating processes in this way, it is possible to increase the security and availability of the IIS, as an application error will not cause the entire site to crash. However, generally this causes a reduction in performance. The process isolation settings are defined in the Properties window of the virtual directory. Under IIS 4.0, process isolation is achieved by selecting the Run in separate memory space (isolated process) box. In IIS 5.0, the methods can be set in the Application Protection field. This covers three levels: - Low (IIS Process): The application is executed (using file Inetinfo. Exe) in the same process as the web services. - Medium (Pooled): The application is executed in a pooled process. This means that normally all applications are executed together outside each web service (using the file DLLhost. Exe). - High (Isolated): The application is executed in its own, isolated context outside of the web services and other applications (using another instance of the DLLhost. Exe file). If an error occurs in an application that is executed in the Low mode, some or all of the services of the web server can crash at the same time. This mode should therefore not be used. If all the applications are executed in the Pooled mode, then only those applications will be affected in the event of a program crash. If all the applications are executed in the Isolated mode, one can expect the IIS to exhibit a significant loss of performance. For this reason it is recommended that no more than ten applications are executed in Isolated mode.
